Jan. 02--CHICAGO -- A jogger suffered critical injuries in a dog attack in the city's South Shore neighborhood Monday morning.
Chicago Police have a person, who is believed to be the owner of the two pit bulls, in custody. No charges have been filed, yet.
Joseph Finley, 62, was jogging in Rainbow Beach Park around 6 a.m. Monday morning when the 70-pound pit bulls attacked, biting him all over his body.
Stanley Lee, who lives in the neighborhood, says he heard screams and ran outside. Lee says he tried to beat the dogs off with a baseball bat, but they would not back down.
Police officers arriving at the scene shot and killed both pit bulls.
The dogs were wearing matching collars, but no tags.
Finley remained in critical condition at Stroger Hospital after undergoing surgery. A spokesperson for the hospital says Finley's family is thankful for the good Samaritans and police officers who stepped in to stop the bloody attack.
