Dec. 21--Police charged a North Carolina woman Monday morning after they said she assaulted a police officer after a verbal argument.

Officers say Laytisha Denis Smalls went into an acquaintance's home in the 3000 block of Fox Lair Drive, Southbridge area, at 9:20 a.m.

While there, she reportedly got into an argument with the acquaintance, which prompted a call to police, Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok said.

Smalls apparently refused to follow police orders to calm down and then pushed past an officer as she was being arrested--sending the officer to a nearby bed in the home, police said.

Smalls, 35, of 14426 Asheton Creed Drive, Charlotte, was charged with assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, Perok said.

She was held in lieu of a $2,500 secured bond.

Police did not have her court date immediately available.
