A Lower Burrell man escaped from police and had to be pulled from the Allegheny River early today after jumping in, a Westmoreland County emergency dispatcher said.

The suspect, who was not identified, was arrested late Saturday night in connection with a domestic dispute. He was handcuffed when he fled from police and jumped into the river shortly after midnight, the dispatcher said.

A rescue boat was called, but the dispatcher said police pulled him from the river before the boat arrived.

The suspect was taken to the Alle-Kiski Medical Center in Natrona Heights, Harrison. Lower Burrell police could not be reached for comment.
