Dec. 17-- Garland Scott Treadwell told police he was up all night Tuesday breaking into several garages throughout town.

He then drove with officers and showed them each of the places he burglarized.

Now, the 47-year-old Warsaw, Ill., man is in jail charged in an initial police complaint with three counts of third-degree burglary and one count of fifth-degree theft. Additional charges could be pending the outcome of the investigation.

Officers were called at 4:02 a.m. Wednesday to the Lenox Park area to investigate suspected stolen property there. Other recent burglaries have been reported in the area.

Later that morning, police pulled over a Chevrolet Cobalt after spotting it driving up and down the alleys in the area.

Suspicion soon focused on the driver, later identified as Treadwell, after police found him soaking wet -- it had been raining all night Tuesday and into Wednesday morning.

A search of the vehicle yielded two marine batteries and a large cardboard box containing an electronic four-wheeler that had not been assembled.

During an interview, Treadwell said he stole the unassembled four-wheeler from a garage near the Hy-Vee store on Agency Street, and the batteries from garages in the Lenox Park area.

He then showed officers the garages and boats he burglarized. Treadwell added he took some of the items to a man he identified as Gabe Clark on Stowe Street and others to a home on Racine Avenue owned by Dan Petty.

Clark told officers there were several items in his storage shed and basement that did not belong to him; Petty said the same thing.

Police said several power tools also were taken from a garage in the 1300 block of North Seventh Street and a bicycle on Oak Street.

Most of the items have been recovered.
