HOULTON, Maine -- A Wytopitlock man who tried to walk out of Walmart with close to $700 worth of merchandise concealed in his clothing was arrested on multiple charges Monday afternoon.
Houlton Police Chief Butch Asselin said Tuesday that Stephen L. Voisine, 29, aroused suspicion from an asset protection officer at the store after he allegedly observed him trying to conceal a number of knives. The officer called police, who stopped Voisine in the parking lot after he ignored employee requests to stop inside the store.
Upon searching Voisine, police say they found seven knives, several wrenches, socket sets, flashlights, socks, a watch and an electronics adapter tucked under his shirt and the waistband of his pants. He had lawfully purchased a candy bar, which he also was carrying.
Voisine told police that he carried those items on him whenever he went anywhere "this time of year."
The value of the alleged items stolen was $685. Voisine was charged with theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, violation of conditions of release and carrying a concealed weapon,
Officers Ezekiel Collins and Chuck Wampler investigated the incident.
