MIRAMAR, Fla. -- One man is dead and another hospitalized in critical condition following a shooting early Wednesday in a parking area near a nightclub.
According to Miramar police spokeswoman Tania Rues, the shooting happened about 4:30 a.m. along the 6900 block of Miramar Parkway.
"We received several calls about multiple gunshots in the area," Rues said.
The area includes a nightclub called Stingerz, a sandwich shop and a Shell gas station.
The two men were shot inside their car. The man who died was in the passenger's side of the vehicle. Investigators said he got out of the car after the shooting and could have also been hit by a passing car.
Police have not released the identities of either man and said they are investigating whether they were inside the nightclub before the shooting and what led to the violence.
"All we have at the moment was there was some type of altercation," she said.
A witness told authorities that a silver Honda fled the scene. A car fitting that description was later stopped in Miami Gardens and at least one man was being questioned, Rues said. It's unknown if the man being questioned is a suspect in the case.
"We have not made any arrests," Rues said
Nathanel Stwart, 17, of Miami, said he left Stingerz around 4:20 a.m. and was using the restroom at the nearby gas station when he heard about a dozen gunshots.
"I was in such fear of my life," he said. "I just stayed in the restroom until the shots were clear but when I finally came out, I heard screams," he said.
"When I was coming back to the club, that's when I saw all the blood in the street" he added. "I saw the guy on the ground...I saw his eyes roll back."
Investigators cordoned off the area where the shooting took place and were combing over the bullet-riddled vehicle the men were in.
Police were diverting westbound traffic on Miramar Parkway for a several block stretch from State Road 7 to the scene of the shooting.
