Dec. 13--A $20,000 reward is being offered for information on a band of thieves who broke open an ATM in Medford and stole $200,000, the FBI said.
The theft happened in the early morning of Dec. 3 at a stand-alone Bank of America ATM inside a Medford building that is being renovated. A group of people forced open the ATM, getting past most of the complex security precautions, according to the FBI.
Bank of America is offering a $15,000 reward, and the FBI has ponied up another $5,000, for information leading to the arrest of those involved in the burglary. The FBI is looking for information on individuals with knowledge of ATMs, alarm and telecommunications systems who broke from their routine or was not at work or at home the night of the theft and who suddenly had a large chunk of cash at their disposal.
Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 617-742-5533 or the Medford police at 781-393-4700.
