Dec. 12--Buckeystown Pike was closed for nearly seven hours Sunday as Maryland State Police and deputies from the Frederick County Sheriff's Office dealt with a barricade situation involving an armed suicidal man.
Troopers were called to the home in the 4000 block of Buckeystown Pike near Lime Kiln Road at about 10:30 a.m. for a report of a verbal domestic dispute. Other family members were outside the home by the time they arrived, but a man inside, who has not been identified, had a shotgun and was threatening to harm himself, according to a Maryland State Police news release.
When the man wouldn't respond to attempts to speak with him, a perimeter was set up and state police and sheriff's office negotiators, as well as a state police SWAT team, were called in.
Police also evacuated residents from surrounding homes. After numerous attempts to talk to the man were unsuccessful, troopers and family members went inside and found him. The man was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for an emergency evaluation, police said.
The scene was cleared and the road reopened at about 5:30 p.m.
