Dec. 10--A woman stole a Salvation Army kettle filled with donations at around 3:30 p.m. Friday in the entryway of Copps grocery store at 620 S. Whitney Way, police said.

The woman ran out of the store into a waiting white, four-door vehicle, Madison police said.

The amount of money taken was not disclosed.

Ruth Ann Schoer, director of major gifts for the Salvation Army of Dane County, said the suspect stood near the volunteer bell ringer at the store for a long time until the volunteer looked in another direction. Then the thief unhooked the kettle and ran out the door.
