Lancaster police said an alert witness led them to a burglary suspect early Monday.
The person called police at 2:49 a.m. after witnessing a man exit the Stop N Go Mini Market, 777 New Holland Ave. Police said a burglar alarm at the store had been activated around that time.
City police Lt. Todd Umstead said the caller was able to provide county dispatchers with a description of the suspect's vehicle. That information was then broadcast to police departments across the county, he said.
About 10 minutes after the initial call, East Lampeter Township police spotted a Ford Explorer matching the description of the suspect's vehicle, Umstead said.
Officers stopped the SUV in the 200 block of East Main Street in Upper Leacock Township, he said.
City police were notified of the stop and responded to the area. After viewing surveillance video from the burglary, they determined the man to be the suspected burglar, Umstead said.
The man was questioned Monday at city police headquarters. He was still in custody Monday night.
Umstead said police were awaiting a search warrant for the Explorer.
No charges had been filed by Monday night.
