Dec. 06--ROCK ISLAND -- A Douglas County sheriff's deputy was punched in the face Monday while trying to subdue an 18-year-old Rock Island man, Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal said.
The deputy, Joaquin Sanchez, then struck his chest when he fell on a wooden chair, Gjesdal said. Sanchez was at a residence in the 5500 block after deputies received notice that an out-of-control man was inside.
The man was handcuffed after a second deputy and a detective arrived at the residence, Gjesdal said. Sanchez was treated at Central Washington Hospital for a bruised chest, and was released.
Jordain E. Berreth was treated at the hospital for hand injuries, then was booked into the Chelan County Regional Justice Center on suspicion of three counts of third-degree assault. Two of the counts involved assaulting deputies, the third was for threatening and spitting on ambulance staff, Gjesdal said. Berreth was also arrested on suspicion of malicious mischief for damaging property at the residence.
