For the second time in two weeks, Norwell voters rejected a plan to build a new police station on Washington Street.
About 57 percent of the 1,014 residents who turned out for Saturday's special election voted against building a $5.1 million, 12,250-square-foot police station. At the Nov. 21 special town meeting, when a two-thirds majority was needed, the proposal fell short by four votes.
Had voters approved the station Saturday, officials probably would have raised the question again at the annual town meeting in the spring.
Selectman Gregg McBride said the town will keep pursuing options for replacing the police station on River Street, which he said is outdated and inadequate.
"This project is not dead," McBride said Sunday night.
Town Clerk Pat Anderson said about 14 percent of the town's registered voters participated in the special election.
