Man Charged With Assaulting Police Officers in Hawaii

A 23-year-old Wahiawa man, who allegedly attacked two police officers trying to break up a street fight in Whitmore Village Saturday, has been charged with assault.

Dec. 05--A 23-year-old Wahiawa man, who allegedly attacked two police officers trying to break up a street fight in Whitmore Village Saturday, has been charged with assault.

Jonah Mailo was to make his initial appearance in District Court this morning on first-degree and second-degree assault charges on law enforcement officers.

Police breaking up a fight on the street around 10:40 p.m. and were separating people when Mailo allegedly tackled one officer, causing the officer to fall head first into the road, police said.

The officer was taken to a hospital in serious, but stable condition.

Mailo tried to flee when he allegedly struck a second officer in the face, causing minor injuries, police said.
