Couple Injured After L.A. Deputy Allegedly Runs Red Light in Hollywood

According to a witness, the patrol car, described as a Chevy Suburban, was traveling at high speed as it drove through the intersection and hit a Lexus sedan.

Dec. 03--HOLLYWOOD -- Two people were injured Saturday after their car was hit by a patrol car.

The crash happened shortly before 2 a.m. at the intersection of La Brea and Hawthorne avenues. The sheriff's deputy was en-route to a fight in West Hollywood when he ran a red light.

According to a witness, the patrol car, described as a Chevy Suburban, was traveling at high speed as it drove through the intersection.

The patrol car then crashed into the driver's side of a Lexus sedan, trapping the male driver inside the vehicle. Firefighters had to cut the door off to get him out of the car.

A female passenger was also taken to a hospital for treatment.

Neither of their condition is immediately known.

The deputy was the sole occupant of the car. He sustained minor abrasions.

According to reports, the deputy was headed to a fight that had broken out in the parking lot adjacent to the Andaz on the Sunset Strip.
