Gunman, Two Boys Die in Texas Shootings
Two children who were among six people found shot at a Bay City home on Wednesday afternoon have died at the hospital, officials said Thursday morning.
Among the wounded were two other children and a woman, whose conditions were not released.
Authorities confirmed that the alleged shooter was discovered dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
Prompted by a call about a woman being shot, Bay City police responded to a residence in the 2700 block of 10th Street about 3:18 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found six people with gunshot wounds. No names have been released.
The four children, whose ages, genders and conditions were not released at press time, were transported to Matagorda Regional Medical Center. They were then flown by medical helicopter to Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. The woman underwent surgery, according to a Bay City Police Department spokesman.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences confirmed Thursday morning that two of the children had died.
Late Wednesday, investigators were working to determine the relationship between the suspected shooter and the others shot.
The Bay City Independent School District posted this alert on its website: "A terrible domestic family tragedy took place at a private residence near Bay City Junior High and Cherry Elementary today. The intent of this message is to confirm that at no time were any students or campuses in any danger today. None of our students or staff have been injured. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family who suffered the tragedy today in Bay City."
Bay City, a town of 18,000 about 85 miles southwest of Houston, is the seat of Matagorda County.
