DNA Helps Identify Victim of John Wayne Gacy

Authorities said Tuesday they identified a construction worker who disappeared in 1976 as one of Gacy's eight unnamed victims.

More than 30 years after finding bones beneath John Wayne Gacy's house, authorities said Tuesday they identified a 19-year-old Chicago construction worker who disappeared in 1976 as one of Gacy's eight unnamed victims.

The announcement by Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart came nearly seven weeks after his office issued a plea for families of young men who disappeared in the 1970s to submit DNA samples for comparison with the victims' remains. William Bundy's sister said she always suspected Gacy killed her brother; DNA tests confirmed it. "Today's terribly sad, but it is also a day that provides closure," Laura O'Leary said. "We have been waiting for a long time for closure."

Medal of Honor veteran sues contractor

A Medal of Honor recipient is suing a defense contractor that he says called him mentally unstable and suggested he had a drinking problem.

Dakota Meyer, 23, received the Medal of Honor in September for heroism in Afghanistan. In a defamation lawsuit filed in Texas, Meyer alleges that his former employer, BAE Systems OASYS, told a prospective employer that he was a poor worker and "mentally unstable."

Meyer says BAE hired him in March, but that he soon complained to his supervisor after learning that BAE had pursued sales of weapons systems to Pakistan. Meyer wrote that it was "disturbing" how U.S. troops were being issued outdated equipment when better, advanced thermal optic scopes were being offered to Pakistan. Meyer resigned in May. BAE spokesman Brian Roehrkasse said it is the State Department and not BAE that makes the decision on what can be exported.

South gets November surprise: Snow

An unusual November storm left several inches of snow and slippery roads across parts of Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama, the National Weather Service reported.

Most spots picked up 2-4 inches, Weather Channel meteorologist Mark Ressler said. Paragould, Ark., was hit hardest with about 8 inches, the weather service reported. The snow had almost entirely melted by early afternoon, according to Ressler, although snow was continuing to fall in Indiana and Michigan on Tuesday afternoon and evening as the storm moved north.--Doyle Rice

Kansas kidnapper sues his hostages

A man who held a Kansas couple hostage while fleeing police is suing them, claiming they broke an oral contract made when he promised them money in exchange for hiding him.

Jesse Dimmick is serving an 11-year sentence after bursting into Jared and Lindsay Rowley's Topeka-area home in September 2009 and offering them money to help him hide from police. When he fell asleep, they slipped out and turned Dimmick in. The Topeka Capital-Journal reported that Dimmick filed his lawsuit in response to a suit by the Rowleys seeking $75,000 for emotional distress. Robert Keeshan, a lawyer for the Rowleys, filed a motion refuting any contract.
