Off-Duty Pittsburgh Officer, Wife Robbed at Gunpoint
Pittsburgh police arrested a couple accused of robbing an off-duty city officer and his wife at gunpoint in Wilkinsburg last night.
Police charged Quintin Smith-Anderson, 19, of Wilkinsburg with robbery and carrying a firearm without a license and Tonita Henderson, 17, of Wilkinsburg with robbery and receiving stolen property.
Pittsburgh police Detective Jeffrey Wingard was walking with his wife down Pansy Way near Guthrie Street when a man grabbed his jacket at the shoulder, pointed a pistol at his wife and his face and demanded his wallet, according to a criminal complaint filed against Smith-Anderson.
Wingard said he didn't have a wallet and Smith-Anderson threatened to shoot him, the complaint said. Henderson took a smartphone from Wingard's wife and Smith-Anderson ordered Wingard to the ground before the pair fled, the complaint said.
Wingard followed the two while calling 911, but lost sight of them at the intersection of Peebles and Savannah streets, the complaint said.
At Biddle and West streets, the couple saw Henderson emerge from between two houses, and wrestled her to the ground with the help of other officers, the complaint said.
Henderson pointed out a home on West Street where Smith-Anderson was hiding, the complaint said.
Smith-Anderson came to the door and then showed the officers the gun used in the robbery, the complaint said. He told Wingard "I'm so sorry, sir" when the detective confronted him, the complaint said.
Henderson told police she participated in the robbery with Smith-Anderson after the two talked about needing money, the complaint said.
Smith-Anderson and Henderson are being held at Allegheny County Jail. It was not immediately clear if they have attorneys.
