N.Y. Traffic Stop Yields Large Heroin Seizure

A traffic stop in the town of Afton on Tuesday night resulted in the seizure of 119 packets of heroin and other drugs.

A traffic stop in the town of Afton on Tuesday night resulted in the seizure of 119 packets of heroin and other drugs, as well as the arrest of a Bainbridge man, according to state police in Sidney.

John T. Winn, 25, was stopped on Afton Lake Road at about 9:15 p.m. for allegedly failing to signal a turn, troopers said.

The heroin, 21 fentanyl-transdermal patches and other drug paraphernalia were found in his vehicle after a search, according to state police.

Winn was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and was arraigned in Afton Town Court. He was sent to Chenango County jail on $50,000 bail.

The investigation is continuing, and more charges are pending, troopers said.
