A police officer was hospitalized overnight after his parked patrol car was rammed by a pickup truck with an apparently drunken driver behind the wheel in South Philadelphia, authorities said today.
The female driver and male passenger of another car hit by the pickup were treated at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for minor injuries and released.
The pickup's 41-year-old male driver is expected to be charged with driving under the influence.
Police said the crash occurred about 11:20 p.m. Thursday when a 2006 Toyota Camry making a left hand turn from the eastbound lane Passyunk Avenue onto 22nd Street was hit by a westbound 1999 Ford F150 pickup.
The pickup then ran head on into the parked 2010 Chevrolet Impala police car with an officer at the wheel, police said.
The officer was taken to HUP with neck, back and leg pain and was kept overnight for a possible concussion, police said.
