VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- A judge sentenced a Virginia Beach man to the maximum sentence of 48 years for a murder conviction and other charges related to a double shooting in 2009.

Isidro Loredo Amaya, a 33-year-old Virginia Beach resident, was found guilty in a jury trial on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated malicious wounding, and two counts of the use of a firearm in commission of a felony. The charges relate to the Dec. 26, 2009, shooting death of Florentino Martinez-Melendez and the shooting of his brother, Modesto Martinez-Melendez.

Prosecutors say Amaya shot the men in a dispute over a card game in a trailer park in the 1100 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard.

Jorge Loredo, whom police say drove Amaya to get his gun and then helped him flee the scene, had previously been convicted of voluntary manslaughter and unlawful wounding for his role in the shootings. He was sentenced to four years.

Virginia Beach commonwealth's attorney Harvey Bryant said he expected Amaya and Loredo to be deported after serving their prison sentences.
