Police say the teen stole a car from a Diablo Valley College parking lot.

PLEASANT HILL, N.C. -- Police said a 14-year-old boy stole a car from a Diablo Valley College parking lot Wednesday morning but was caught after leading police on a brief chase.

Police also believe the suspect, described as a runaway whose identity has been withheld because he is a minor, traveled to the college in another stolen car he abandoned.

Officers from Contra Costa Community College District police were alerted around 10:45 a.m. that a blue 1995 Honda Accord had been stolen from the student parking lot near Golf Club Road. Pleasant Hill officers spotted the vehicle southbound on Contra Costa Boulevard near Taylor Boulevard.

Police followed the car onto Dexter Drive, where the driver ditched the vehicle at the end of a driveway and ran north toward Elinwood Drive. Officers chased the driver down and arrested him; he was transferred to the custody of college district police and is expected to face auto-theft charges.
