Nov. 13--Three people were killed and a police officer was wounded in a spate of violence that started late Friday at Arundel Mills mall and ended yesterday morning in front of a home in District Heights.
It began just before midnight Friday when a man and woman from Prince George's County were gunned down in the parking lot of the Dave and Buster's Restaurant at Arundel Mills.
Jeneen Desiree Dunn, 25, of Greenbelt, and 30-year-old Chonscy Laquez Green of Capitol Heights were pronounced dead in what one officer described as a gruesome scene.
A gray SUV was seen in the parking lot at the time of the shootings.
An off-duty Anne Arundel County police officer who was working a secondary security job at the restaurant was able to quickly summon other officers, but was inside at the time of the shooting and was not able to stop the gunman.
Several hours later, police in Prince George's County killed James Coleman, the 22-year-old man who was suspected in the mall killings, after he shot and wounded a Prince George's police officer.
Police still do not have a clear motive for the shootings, although they do not believe the incident was random, said Lt. James Fredericks, an Anne Arundel County police spokesman.
The search for the SUV paid off yesterday morning.
Coleman was found at his home in District Heights and police spent several hours trying to talk him into coming outside, said Cpl. Henry Tippett, a spokesman for Prince George's County police.
The home in the Washington, D.C., suburb is about a 40-minute drive from the northern Anne Arundel County mall.
"Shortly after 10 a.m., he came out of his house carrying a shotgun and an AK-47 and confronted officers," Tippett said.
Coleman shot one officer with the shotgun, striking the officer in the leg, torso and face before the other officers opened fire, Tippett said. The officer did not suffer life-threatening injuries, Tippett said.
A search of state case records did not show Coleman having a previous criminal record.
