Nov. 08--PITTSBURG -- A combative Antioch man was bitten by a police dog and tased after trying to elude authorities Tuesday morning, according to the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office.

Richard Poe, 25, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle, stolen property and illegal drugs; resisting arrest; and violating parole, said Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee.

Deputies spotted a stolen Lexus SUV on eastbound Highway 4 near the San Marco Boulevard exit about 5:35 a.m. and tried to pull it over, but the SUV took the offramp into Bay Point and headed east on West Leland Road, Lee said.

Three miles later, the driver crashed into a soundwall at Dover Way in Pittsburg, Lee said, disabling the vehicle.

Deputies sicced a Sheriff's police dog on Poe, who resisted, and a Pittsburg officer fired his Taser, Lee said. Poe was taken to the hospital for examination and expected to be booked into County Jail in Martinez upon his release.
