LAUDERHILL, Fla. -- Police in Lauderhill are investigating a shooting that happened late Sunday night that left one man dead and another wounded.

The shooting happened about 10 p.m. near Northwest 1st Street and 34th Avenue when two armed men approached a group of people outside a house, said Lauderhill Police Capt. Rick Ricco.

"It appears it was an attempted robbery," Rocco said.

When the group of people began to scatter, the two armed men opened fire, he said. The gunmen then ran away southbound on 34th Avenue toward Broward Boulevard, Rocco said.

The man who died was driven by an unknown person to a home along the 3300 block of Northwest 6th Court. The person knocked on the home's door and left the shooting victim and the car outside the home, Rocco said. The dead man was only identified as being in his 20s.

The second person who was shot was initially driven to Plantation General Hospital. He was later transported to Broward General Hospital and brought into surgery, according to Rocco.

In addition to the two shooting victims, a woman who was brushed by a car during the initial confrontation was taken to Plantation General Hospital where she was treated and released, Rocco said.

The investigation into the incident is continuing.

More information will be posted as soon as it is available.
