Arrest Made in 2009 California Convenience Store Homicide

A Merced man turned himself in to law enforcement for the 2009 murder of a convenience store clerk in south Modesto, Sheriff's Department officials said Thursday.

Mark Burgess surrendered to the Merced Police department last week for the Dec. 4, 2009, murder of 28-yearold Harinder Sanghera of Ceres, according to Sgt. Anthony Bejaran.

Sanghera was shot during a botched robbery at Gas N Shop on south Ninth Street, where he worked as a clerk.

During interviews with Burgess detectives also identified Ernesto Morales Jr. of Merced as the second suspect in the shooting.

Morales has not been arrested. He's believed to be in Merced County.

Burgess is in Stanislaus County Jail.
