Cicero police charged a Maywood man for allegedly pirating movies after they discovered more than 2,000 DVDs in his car during a traffic stop, officials said.
Police pulled over the late-model Cadillac Friday for a broken headlight in the 5800 block of 10th Avenue, according to town spokesman Ray Hanania.
After police allegedly smelled marijuana, the driver, 35-year-old Dwon A. Kelly, got out of the car and admitted to police that he had been carrying a small amount of marijuana, officials said.
As police inspected the Cadillac, they discovered four large bags filled with 2,277 allegedly illegal copies of movie DVDs, Hanania said. Kelly allegedly claimed that he discovered the bags of movies in an alley.
Police contacted the Motion Picture Association of America and will prosecute the case for alleged violation of movie copyright laws.
