A man wanted by Staunton police since his escape from custody in late July, was arrested at a Waynesboro location Wednesday night.
Police arrested Derrick Lee Barbour, 21, shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday at a city residence in the 400 block of Third Street.
After a search warrant was executed, Barbour was arrested and a .22-caliber pistol was recovered.
The arrest was made by Waynesboro City police in conjunction with a joint task force that included Staunton police, the Augusta County Sheriff's Office and the Virginia State Police, said Capt. Kelly Walker of the Waynesboro police.
Walker said Barbour answered to the commands of police without problems when he was arrested Wednesday night.
Barbour is charged with escape in Staunton said Officer Lisa Klein, a spokeswoman for the Staunton Police Department.
Barbour also has a Waynesboro charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He was being held at Middle River Regional Jail in Verona on Thursday.
Barbour had been at large since July 26, when he escaped from Staunton after being arrested. Barbour was wanted on federal gun and drug charges.
He ran from officers outside the Staunton Police Department in downtown with his hands cuffed behind his back.
Officers fanned out through the area, knocked on doors and businesses and used a Virginia State Police helicopter to search for Barbour.
Staunton police had arrested Barbour earlier in the day after a complaint of gunshots in Montgomery Hall Park. He was identified and taken into custody on the federal charges.
Walker did not say what led police to Barbour on Wednesday night.
In addition to Barbour, police arrested Kaylyn Shamara Anderson, 21, on a Staunton capias warrant for failure to appear.
