Oct. 25--A man fleeing from police in a stolen car early Tuesday crashed the vehicle into a stoplight pole in south Minneapolis and died.
The man's identity has yet to be released.
According to police:
About 1:45 a.m., two officers on patrol attempted to stop the car, a 2005 Honda Civic, for an equipment violation at E. 31st Street and Stevens Avenue S.
The driver pulled into oncoming traffic and fled east on 31st. About a minute later, the car hit the pole.
Officers pulled the driver from the car and began resuscitation efforts until emergency medical personnel arrived and took him to Hennepin County Medical Center.
The car had been stolen from southwest Minneapolis. The owner hadn't known until police told him that the vehicle was missing.
