CONNEAUT, Ohio -- Charges are pending against five people arrested in connection with a methamphetamine-making operation discovered Saturday in a 15th Street apartment, said Police Chief Charles Burlingham.
Four of the suspects are Conneaut-area residents, while a fifth has a Georgia address, he said.
A routine traffic stop early Saturday put police on the trail, Burlingham said. Inside the vehicle found drug paraphernalia that indicated meth use, he said. Information obtained from the traffic stop brought police to the apartment building, where they observed suspicious activity that prompted them to seek a search warrant from Conneaut Municipal Court Judge Thomas Harris.
Armed with the warrant, police entered the apartment at mid-morning and discovered ingredients and equipment used to manufacture the drug, Burlingham said.
A police officer trained in meth clean-up activity was able to remove the ingredients to a safe location, where they will be neutralized by a deputy sheriff certified in disposal technique, Burlingham said.
The lab was the second found located in the city this month, police said.
