Timothy Davis Sr., the retired Orlando police officer who prosecutors say shot and killed his 22-year-old son, is set to have a bond hearing this afternoon.
Davis, 47, was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder in the Oct. 1 death of Timothy Davis Jr., 22.
But a grand jury indicted him on second-degree murder. Today's bond hearing is at 1:30 p.m. in front of Circuit Judge Jenifer Davis.
The shooting occurred about 6:20 p.m. on Oct. 1, police said, in the garage of the Davis family home in Apopka. Police said the elder Davis shot his son after a fight.
Davis Sr. was hospitalized after the shooting due to a knee injury.
A judge denied bond in the case during Davis' first appearance.
Investigators say the two men had argued about custody arrangements for Timothy Davis Jr.'s 3-year-old son.
Tim Davis Jr., a former Apopka High School and University of Alabama at Birmingham football player, had earlier argued with his son's mother, who took the child from the home.
The elder Davis confessed to the shooting and surrendered his gun, according to authorities.
"I didn't mean to kill him," Davis told police. "I wasn't trying to kill him; I just lost it."
