CHICO, Calif. --  A handcuffed suspect who managed to escape from the back of a Butte County Sheriff's patrol car in north Chico Sept. 30 was captured Thursday night by Chico police.

Lt. Linda Dye said officers got a call about a suspicious subject at an apartment complex in the 100 block of Menlo Way about 9:30 p.m.

Dye said detectives had been at the complex earlier Thursday seeking information about the suspect, Michael Omalia, 27.

He was located in a laundry room of the complex and taken into custody without incident.

Omalia escaped from the sheriff's car following a traffic stop. He reportedly complained about being claustrophobic and a deputy lowered a window enough for Omalia to reach the outside latch and open the door. He also managed to get the cuffs in front of him and outrun deputies.

Omalia is wanted on an arrest warrant in Nevada and will be returned there to face charges.
