Oct. 15--A firefighter and a police officer working at the site of a gas leak this afternoon in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood were both hit by cars, a Fire Department spokesman said.

Firefighters were called out to the 10300 block of South Pulaski Road a little before 1 p.m. today, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Chief Joe Roccasalva.

The firefighter was struck by a car and taken to Metro South Medical Center in Blue Island, and the police officer was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital, he said. Both were in good condition.

Some construction work apparently had been going on in the area and a small gas main sprang a leak, he said.

Peoples Gas crews were able to shut off the gas leak by a little before 2 p.m., he said.
