Oct. 15--A police officer was injured and a Woodbine man faces drunken-driving charges after an early-morning chase Saturday in Lower Township.

The situation unfolded at 2:24 a.m. along Bayshore Road, said Lt. Tom Beeby, patrol bureau commander for the township Police Department.

Cpl. Kevin Boyle was driving northbound along the road, Beeby said, when a car driven by William Lowe Jr. jumped a curb, striking Boyle's vehicle, damaging its front end and leaving Boyle with neck and back injuries.

Lowe kept driving north, with police giving chase.

Eventually, his car flipped over near CJ's American Grill, Beeby said. Firefighters responded to the scene and pulled Lowe from the vehicle, and Lowe was flown to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, in Atlantic City with a head injury.

Lowe faces a charge of driving while intoxicated and other motor vehicle offenses, Beeby said.

Boyle was treated and released from the hospital.
