Former Miami Police Chief Files Suit Over Firing
MIAMI
Nearly a month after former Miami Police Chief Miguel Exposito was fired, he is back with a lawsuit.
Late Tuesday afternoon, the city of Miami was officially served notice of the former chief's lawsuit.
The lawsuit seeks to "quash the decision" by the city commission last month to fire Exposito, saying there was not "substantial competent evidence" and that the former chief was not given his "due process."
The city fired Exposito in September over insubordination charges for overtime and demotions. At the time, Exposito spoke only of moving forward, but now, he is trying to become chief again.
There has long been bad blood between Mayor Tomas Regalado and Exposito, mainly over the gaming machines that Regalado supported and Exposito supported busting.
The mayor called Exposito's lawsuit a "waste of the taxpayers' money."
The petition was filed in circuit court Tuesday. The city attorney said he believes the city is in good standing and will win the lawsuit.
