SAN ANTONIO --
A local man has been arrested after San Antonio police say he made several terrorist threats.
Police received notice of the threats from witnesses who told detectives that Kyle Alexander Vanheynigen, 20, had sent them several alarming text messages earlier this week.
An arrest affidavit stated those text messages referred to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Holocaust and guns and ammunition Vanheynigen claimed to have in his possession.
The affidavit stated detectives also found alarming messages on Vanheynigen's Facebook page that discussed satellites and missile warfare.
The affidavit stated detectives worked with the San Antonio FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force to determine the validity of the messages.
"Since 9/11, I think we've all been on a heightened awareness, regardless of when this happens," said San Antonio police Sgt. Chris Benavides. "We know the 10-year anniversary is coming up but regardless, we are going to take these complaints (and) allegations seriously."
In addition to the threats made by Vanheynigen, the affidavit states he gave a handgun to a friend in February 2010 and that gun was used to fatally shoot someone. He was not charged in that case.
Vanheynigen is charged with making terroristic threats, which is a third-degree felony.
