NORFOLK, Va. -- The suspect in the shooting of a police officer and a woman this morning is expected to be OK, said Chris Amos, a spokesman for the Norfolk police department.

The shootout happened in a military housing complex near Norfolk Naval Station. Officers were called to the 8100 block of Diven Arch at about 5 a.m., Amos said.

At the scene they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. They also found another woman who was armed.

She fired and struck one of the officers. At least one officer returned fire and shot her, Amos said.

The officer and the victim were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both are going to be fine, Amos said this morning.

The suspect was also taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Amos reported early this afternoon that she is also expected to recover. Charges are pending, he said.

Police do not yet have a motive in the first shooting.
