A decorated Mount Rainer police officer, who claimed he shot a man during a carjack attempt earlier this month, has been indicted for attempted murder and other offenses in connection with the incident.
Gene Gillette surrendered Tuesday, and is being held in jail without bail, according to WUSA9.com.
Charging documents indicate the victim was allegedly lured to Gillette's residence in Capitol Heights for a party. However, there was no function.
The indictment also says that Gillette "tried to force John Hall to perform oral sex on him against his will and without his consent" and that he also tried to touch his penis, according to published reports.
When the victim tried to get away, Gillette allegedly pistol-whipped him before shooting him twice.
“He threw him on the ground and dragged him,” the victim's father told reporters. “His whole arm is all messed up. And then he shot him in the back.”
Gillette was charged with 12 felony counts, including attempted murder.
"The police deserve credit," Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said. "They returned to the scene and they didn't take the first story. They continued to investigate and they did a very thorough job in investigating the case and trying to bring out the truth of what occurred."
She added: "We're seeking justice in this case...and I think the indictments speak for themselves."
