ANDERSON - An Anderson police officer received minor injuries Wednesday afternoon when she was involved in a two-vehicle accident, officials said.
Officer Macey Gaines, 30, was driving south on South McDuffie Street when her police cruiser collided with a white 2002 Ford F150 pickup that had run a stoplight while traveling west on East Franklin Street, said South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne.
Gaines, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson after complaining of neck and back pain, Anderson police Sgt. David Creamer said. No information was available on her condition Wednesday night.
The driver of the Ford pickup, 31-year-old Anderson resident Joshua Edwards, was charged with disregarding a traffic signal, Rhyne said. Edwards was wearing a seat belt and was unhurt. Wednesday's wreck was the third traffic accident involving Anderson police officers in two months. Officer Rick McElveen's police cruiser was heavily damaged May 10 when he struck a power pole near Linley Park while trying to avoid another vehicle.
Officer Alan McCoy was involved in a May 20 accident on North Main Street when his cruiser hit another vehicle while he was executing a U-turn to make a traffic stop.
