WOODLAND — A State Trooper escaped serious injury early Sunday morning when he struck a moose in Woodland.
State Police Sgt. Tom Pelletier said that the incident happened at approximately 1:30 a.m., when Trooper Chuck Michaud was responding to a call to assist another trooper in the Aroostook County town of Perham.
Michaud could not avoid the moose, which he encountered on Route 228 in Woodland. Pelletier said that the trooper was westbound when the animal stepped into his path.
Michaud sustained minor injuries and was taken by the Caribou Ambulance Department to Cary Medical Center in Caribou.
He was treated and released a short time later.
The 2009 Crown Victoria cruiser sustained major front end and windshield damage.
Pelletier did not say what happened to the moose.
