FOUNTAIN, Colo. --
Authorities say police are investigating the deaths of a man and a toddler as a murder-suicide after their bodies were found in a home in a Colorado home after a six-hour standoff.
Officers found the two Monday night after trying unsuccessfully to contact the man, who was believed to be armed.
The standoff began after a woman ran from the house around 2:30 p.m. Monday. Neighbors told KRDO-TV that the man chased the woman into the street, shot her and went back inside the home. The woman was taken to the hospital.
The woman wounded before the man barricaded himself in his home was identified as Shannon Paolini. Sheriff officials say she has worked as financial services specialist at the El Paso County Sheriff's Office since August 2007.
