NEW ORLEANS --

New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas has fired a lieutenant, saying he violated rules and regulations in the Henry Glover case.

Lt. Joseph Meisch has never been charged with a crime, but he did testify at the trial on Glover's death and was the head of homicide shortly after Hurricane Katrina.

Serpas said Meisch violated professional conduct, neglected his duty and avoided instructions from an authoritative source.

"There is zero tolerance in this organization for misconduct," Serpas said in a statement.

Three NOPD officers were convicted last year on charges related to the death of Glover, who was shot and his body burned in the days following Katrina.

Meisch is also one of the officers who was involved in the New Year's Day shooting death of Adolph Grimes in 2009.
