POTEET, Texas --
Poteet police chief John Overstreet announced his resignation Thursday a day after he admitted to "accidentally" texting photos of topless women to his department's only full-time female police officer last month.
Overstreet cited "health reasons" for his resignation and told KSAT-12 the texting incident "was not the straw that broke the camel's back."
Overstreet said he already had been in conversation with city leaders for few months about his desire to quit.
Overstreet said he had been the police chief for about 14 months with a yearly salary of $40,000.
Poteet Police Officer Alice Bhirdo said what was most disturbing about the photos was that Overstreet sent them to her a month after she had filed an official complaint against the chief in early February.
Bhirdo said she accused the chief of sexual harassment unrelated to other misconduct allegations in the same complaint involving a police call Bhirdo had handled.
Bhirdo did not comment on Overstreet's resignation.
