Magnet REVIEW is a collaborative digital forensic review platform. It allows non-technical investigators to remotely and securely access and examine digital evidence such as photos, chat logs and documents from smartphones and computers in an easy-to-use interface through a web browser.
The highly technical nature of traditional digital forensic tools limits collaboration between digital forensic examiners and non-technical investigators, who have the full context of cases. After digital forensic examiners recover evidence from devices such as smartphones and computers, they traditionally transfer the data onto external media. To review that evidence, investigators must either travel to the agency office or have it delivered to them. It is common for investigators to require additional assistance due to the complexity of the evidence, but collaboration is difficult because case data is stored and reviewed in decentralized silos. These inefficiencies are causing police agencies to lose valuable time and resources, while seeing their pursuit of justice delayed.
Magnet REVIEW will ultimately replace this outdated model.
After implementing Magnet REVIEW, the chief technology officer of London’s Metropolitan Police Service, said the tool would allow the Met’s digital forensic review process to undergo “a paradigm shift.”
