Osmington Australia Murder-Suicide Attack

Nov. 20, 2018
There is debate whether a murder/suicide with multiple murders on a private property should be considered an active shooter event. What defines such? That's still evolving.

It’s no secret that gun control laws are argued every time there’s an active shooter event anywhere in the country, and sometimes anywhere in the world. Ironically, while Americans argue gun control after an active shooter recent that occurs in another country, quite often the “other country” has strict gun control laws and the fact that the shooting still occurred serves as evidence that more gun controls law in America won’t make a difference. That aside, it’s seemingly more shocking when a mass shooting occurs in a country that has those more strict gun control laws and have, to some extent, become complacent in their security / awareness measures because they’ve put all their trust in the gun control laws that exist. It’s a shame to see anyone surrender any level of their personal security due to laws that are at best not full effective and, at worst, completely ineffective.

On May 11th, 2018, the residents of Osmington, a relatively small town in Western Australia near the Margaret River learned that the gun control laws there couldn’t fully protect them. In all fairness, it likely wouldn’t have occurred except for the domestic (family) situation that motivated it.  The event was a murder suicide that claimed seven lives including that of the shooter.
