Aug. 20, 2007
A protective material weighing only 5 oz per yard square is one of the lightest systems to pass the USAR test. The PBI TurtleSkin material from Warwick Mills has been certified under the NFPA 1951-2001 protective clothing standard for Urban Search And Rescue (USAR) Operations. PBI TurtleSkin is manufactured with a special fiber blend of microdenier aramid, rayon, and PBI fibers, providing strength, comfort and thermal performance. PBI TurtleSkin's weave maximizes the flexibility of the fabric while offering puncture and abrasion performance, in addition to the high flame and heat resistance. It also meets the NFPA 1977 Wildlands standard and that it has been used successfully to manufacture garments to the 1999 EMS Standard.
