Salient Stills Extends Video Forensics Feature Set

Aug. 29, 2007
Easy to use VideoFOCUS Pro enables law enforcement to generate usable images quickly, accelerate investigations

BOSTON, MA, August 21, 2007 -- Salient Stills, a leading video forensics and image enhancement software company, today released an upgrade to its flagship product VideoFOCUS Pro, with enhanced screen capture abilities. The upgrade includes a suite of screen capture features that allow law enforcement and other investigators to quickly capture surveillance and security video from proprietary digital video recorder (DVR) players and easily produce usable images for identifying suspects and generating leads.

Security and surveillance cameras have the potential to provide law enforcement with video evidence of crimes. But use of such video is often thwarted by digital and proprietary formats that make it difficult for law enforcement to capture images from recording systems in the field. The screen capture utilities in VideoFOCUS Pro can capture and convert such proprietary video into a usable and sharable form.

"Many of the commercial screen capture tools available do not measure up to the requirements of law enforcement. We had been receiving requests from our customers and prospects, and determined this was an important addition to our video forensics technology," said Laura Teodosio, president and CEO of Salient Stills. "The result is that we've made it easy for law enforcement to capture the images they need from proprietary DVR players, and process it in minutes, not days."

Through fixed-sized presets, VideoFOCUS Pro users can quickly set the area of the player capture. A variety of standard video pixel dimensions (640x480 up to 1920x1080) are available from an options menu. For video of non-standard size, VideoFOCUS Pro provides the user with a visual cropping tool to define the desired width and height. Any values created using the cropping tool are fully editable, allowing users to finely-tune the pixel dimensions.

For proprietary video players that fill an entire monitor display, a self-minimizing capture panel ensures video can be captured. VideoFOCUS Pro simplifies the capture process by keeping track of the DVR player window even when it moves, and acts intelligently to minimize the risk of overlapping windows interfering with capture. VideoFOCUS Pro can capture DVR images from a wide assortment of proprietary DVR players without many of the blackouts associated with players that require hardware acceleration. It can also easily capture time code and other information overlays without unexpected overlay dropouts.

Using innovative processing algorithms, VideoFOCUS Pro has become the affordable, preferred video forensics solution in use by law enforcement, security and military and intelligence markets, and image enhancement solutions for media, around the world. It is ideal for investigators who require need a solution that is easy to use, and provides images that will stand up to judicial scrutiny.

VideoFOCUS Pro is available immediately from Salient Stills and a global network of resellers. For new VideoFOCUS Pro users who want to take advantage of all the features and functionality in the video forensics tool, Salient Stills offers professional service training.
