Cross Match Receives DHS SAFETY Act Coverage for Livescan Systems

Sept. 28, 2007
Cross Match's livescan portfolio received both designation as a qualified anti-terrorism technology and certification as approved products for homeland security under the SAFETY Act.

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 24, 2007-- Cross Match Technologies, Inc., a global provider of biometric identity solutions, has been awarded SAFETY Act designation and certification by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for its portfolio of livescan products, including the L SCAN(R) Guardian(TM) ten-print devices already deployed in the United States, Europe and the Middle East.

As part of the Homeland Security Act of 2002, Congress enacted the Support Anti-terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies Act (SAFETY Act) to encourage the development and deployment of anti-terrorism technologies while managing risk and liability associated with such applications. The purpose of the Act is to ensure that the threat of liability does not deter potential manufacturers or sellers of anti-terrorism technologies from developing and commercializing technologies that could save lives. Cross Match's livescan portfolio received both designation as a qualified anti-terrorism technology and certification as approved products for homeland security under the SAFETY Act.

"We're proud to be the first biometrics manufacturer to receive SAFETY Act designation and certification for our fingerprint, palm and full-hand livescan systems," said James Ziglar, president and CEO of Cross Match. "SAFETY Act coverage for our livescan products offers important benefits to both Cross Match and its customers in helping authorities around the world combat terrorism, identity fraud, illegal immigration, and more."

SAFETY Act designation gives Cross Match and its customers protection from and reduced liability for lawsuits and claims arising out of an act of terrorism. The designation also covers livescan products manufactured by Cross Match Technologies GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cross Match Technologies, Inc.
