NetMotion's Mobile VPN unites wired, wide-area wireless and satellite data connections

Seattle, Wash. -- October 16 -- NetMotion Wireless, a leading provider of mobile productivity and management software, today announced that St. James Parish in Louisiana has turned to NetMotion's Mobile Virtual Private Network (VPN) solution to support its police officers in their patrolling vehicles as well as in St. James' two remote facilities. For the Parish, NetMotion's Mobility XE (TM) is boosting mobile productivity by optimizing multiple network connections across wired, wide-area wireless, Wi-Fi and a remote data connection via satellite.

"With two remote facilities, a central headquarters and a fleet of patrolling vehicles, managing and maintaining officer productivity is not an easy task," said Toby Sandifer, IT Manager and Administrator, St. James Parish. "With NetMotion we are able to manage our communications in such a way that our officers can focus on public safety and not on network connections."

St. James Parish joins hundreds of law enforcement and government agencies across the country that rely on Mobility XE to mitigate some of the most common challenges in mobile deployments today, including end-to-end security, application stability as users move in and out of wireless coverage areas and seamless roaming between Wi-Fi and wide-area cellular networks.

"Like many public safety forces, St. James relies on a few critical applications that require constant network connections, and when one doesn't exist, these applications can stall and freeze," said Tom Johnston, SVP products and marketing for NetMotion Wireless. "With Mobility XE, we are able to allow the officers seamless roaming between network types, while keeping critical applications up and running."

As part of their deployment, St. James is using NetMotion's policy management module, which can regulate and balance the amount of network traffic flowing to and from applications. For example, with policy management, St. James was able to implement unique rules that give priority to critical applications when on a low bandwidth connection, and when on a high bandwidth connection, enable large file downloads such as OS and anti-virus updates.

NetMotion's public safety customers include the Los Angeles Police Department, Santa Barbara County, the Orange County Sheriff's Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the State of Washington, the City of Las Vegas, the State of Illinois, the Florida Highway Patrol, Fairfax Country Police Department, the State of Connecticut, and hundreds of others worldwide.
