Research Triangle Park, NC -- The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) has awarded a contract to Integrian for the purchase of its DigitalPatroller DP-2 in-car video systems. Integrian is a leading supplier of advanced mobile video technology for public safety and transportation markets. The Missouri project called for an initial deployment of 266 patrol vehicles with plans to install an additional 450 units in the next six months, making it one of the largest digital video deployments in the country.
The DigitalPatrollers were purchased through a State contract which recognizes Integrian as a preferred supplier. Bob Bradley, Integrian's V.P. of Sales commented, "Awareness of these State contracts is at an all-time high. Agencies are anxious to expedite the buying process and begin deploying systems as soon as possible."
Even with the State contract in place, Lt. Greg Smith of the MSHP said choosing the right system was a lengthy process. "The overall bid process from beginning to end lasted approximately one year. Preliminary testing of ruggedized hard-drive camera systems showed the propensity for systems to freeze during the winter, even with heaters built into the product. Because of the problems associated with the hard-drive based systems, the Patrol made the decision to test and purchase only solid-state digital camera units. An extensive 90-day pilot project began in July of 2006. Six troopers were chosen to evaluate each digital video system. At the end of the 90-day trial, DigitalPatroller won out."
In addition to the ruggedized hardware, officers said the ease of use of the DP-2 software and the ability to burn CDRs or DVDs was a definite plus. "Integrian has been very responsive to our needs," said Lt. Smith. "They have allowed the Missouri State Highway Patrol to make suggestions to improve the systems and many of those suggestions have now been implemented."
