GLASTONBURY, Conn. -- A local man was charged with drunken driving over the weekend after he drove through a scene crowded with police from different agencies and almost struck two officers, police said.
Christopher P. Serra, 33, of Raymond Road, Glastonbury, was charged with driving under the influence and was released on a promise to appear in Superior Court in Manchester on April 23, police said.
Serra declined to comment on the incident Monday night.
The arrest occurred about 1:30 a.m. Saturday on Route 17, when Glastonbury officers were helping Hartford police and state troopers at a traffic stop, Agent James Kennedy said Monday. There had been a chase, he said, with the pursued vehicle going from Route 3 north to Route 2 east to Route 17 south. Glastonbury police were not involved in the chase, he said.
"There was a whole slew of police cars," Kennedy said, some from Hartford and some from the state police. Serra tried to drive through the scene, he said, despite the fact the police cars had their emergency lights on.
When he almost struck two officers, police pulled him over, police said.
